Morflex® 1129 (Dimethyl Isophthalate)
Morflex® 1129 is a specially purified form of dimethyl Isophthalate, an intermediate in the synthesis of polyesters. In order to obtain the structural strength needed in fibers and films, the polyester must be of high molecular weight and the most efficient route to these high molecular weights is through trans-esterification and copolymerization of Morflex 1129 and terephthalate ester with ethylene glycol. It is used in staple polyester and for polyester bottle resin. It works by retarding crystallization for better clarity and strength.
